Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice
I am truly excited about being a Manual Osteopathic Practitioner and look forward to helping others. Although, I have always had an interest in health sciences, my journey has not been a straight path.
I graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics. As a student, in addition to working at the Athletic Centre, I volunteered in the Athletic Therapy department, was a volunteer trainer for the varsity lacrosse team, and volunteered at the Ontario Aerobics Centre as a Cardiac Rehabilitations Technician. My goal was to help people.
Upon graduation, I worked as a Certified Kinesiologist in a physiotherapy clinic in Toronto. My role was to design in clinic and at-home exercise protocols for patients to facilitate their recovery. It was an interesting job that matched my goal to help people but was not the rewarding career I was looking for.
After a few years, I married and moved to Tillsonburg, Ontario. The job opportunities in my field were limited. I considered going back to school, however, while effective, other areas in the health field didn’t hit home with me. In keeping with my desire to work with people, I went to teachers’ college and taught Special Education classes and Grade 4/5 (What a wonderful age. They love everything!!!). I loved teaching but missed working in the health care field.
After a visit to a manual osteopath a few years ago, I found an area of health care that peaked my interest. I had not even known about osteopathy until my husband had exhausted places to go for his headaches. While the desire to go back to health care was strong, I still loved teaching. After doing some research, I kept teaching AND took courses toward a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. The more I learned about osteopathy, the more I felt this was something I needed to do. I have since graduated and I am now ready to take the leap and work as a Manual Osteopathic Practitioner.
